about
Expectations is a song of growth and being able to over-come the adversities that we all harbour within ourselves.
The complexes we develop by comparing ourselves to others and the deflating clout that, like clockwork, hits at 3am making us question all the choices we’ve made in life up to this point and how, perhaps, we haven’t lived up to the expectations of the people that mean the most to us.
lyrics
It's that 3am sadness descending into madness
Creeping in like a goddamn virus
Too dumb for buying in too smart for selling out
Then we carry on tomorrow as if we ever had a doubt,
When your expectations knock you off your level
With your head below water making deals with the devil
You’re scared of ending up alone you pushed away the ones you love
Gotta pick yourself up, gotta pick yourself up, so give me...
Rock and roll and a little bit of soul
At a dimly lit sticky dive bar show
Where me and my friends can laugh at all the stupid trends,
And what’s with all of these sappy, soulless singers
With their overused melisma and lacking charisma
No-one cares about the music that they didn’t write
They’re just gonna end up on a Christmas album singing Silent Night,
And what of their goals apart from pearly white teeth
And a big smile on a billboard overlooking your street
Cause when the rug is pulled from underneath their feet
The name they never earned becomes so bittersweet,
Give me rock and roll and a little bit of soul
At a dimly lit sticky dive bar show
Where me and my friends can laugh at all the stupid trends,
Give me rock and roll and a little bit of soul
Cause I don’t wanna think about tomorrow
And if things go alright I’ll find a pretty face to take home tonight,
It’s that 3am sadness descending into madness
Creeping in like a goddamn virus
Too dumb for buying in, too smart for selling out
Then we carry on tomorrow as if we ever had a doubt,
So give me rock and roll and a little bit of soul
At a dimly lit sticky dive bar show
Where me and my friends can laugh at all the stupid trends,
Give me rock and roll and a little bit of soul
At a dimly lit sticky dive bar show
Where me and my friends can laugh at all the stupid trends,
Give me rock and roll and a little bit of soul
Cause I don’t wanna think about tomorrow
If things go alright I’ll find a pretty face to take home tonight...
Take home tonight
Take home tonight...
Your expectations knock you off your level
Your head below water making deals with the devil
You’re scared to be alone, forget the ones you love
Gotta pick yourself up, gotta pick yourself up with rock and roll...
Rock and roll...
Rock and roll...
